ABOUT US

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Who are we?

The Rome Association of Young Scientist (RAYS) Student Chapter is a group of under and post-graduate science students, that represents the University of Rome "La Sapienza" to the Optical Optical Society of America (OSA) and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE).

Our Activities

The first motivation is to create a link between the young science students of our university and the working world of the optics through the connection with OSA and SPIE.

The second one is to promote science divulgation activities to the non-scientist audience of Rome, Italy and for foreign communities.

Our Sponsors

Founded in 1916, The Optical Society (OSA) is the leading professional association in optics and photonics, home to accomplished science, engineering, and business leaders from all over the world. Through world-renowned publications, meetings, and membership programs, OSA provides quality information and inspiring interactions that power achievements in the science of light.

It is an international society advancing an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light.

The not-for-profit society advances emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent, and career and professional growth.

FAQ

How can I be part of your group?

First of all, go to the contact page and express us your doubts related with our initiative.

Who can be part of the student Chapter group?

Just students from La Sapienza University of Rome in the "Trienale", "Magistrale" or PhD programs, and principally focused to science students. If you don't have experience in optics sciences show us your interests on that.

Are there any other requirements?

Yes, an important one. You must be part of the OSA and/or SPIE optics asociations.

There are two ways to proceed:

a) Obtain an individual membership in any of these two asociations paying an annual fee stablished by them (a lot of benefits). Then you are able by consequence to be part of our chapter membership.

b) Or just have unassociated membership through our chapter group without paying and with just few benefits.

Which are these benefits that you talk about?

Depending on your membership you can obtain discounts in the purchase of some technical textbooks, or have access to widly spread journals and their publication base, and more things

What do I get being part of you?

You will be in contact with professional scientific researchers not just as a normal student, but also as a partner. You will see oportunities to boost your knowledge and capabilities in some particular topic, and maybe find your right future work. Finally you will be immersed in the science divulgation community, seeing enjoyable activities and meeting nice people.

Which are my responsabilities?

We are an independent studen chapter able to boost free activities (always connected with science and optics), but you must cooperate and propose ideas in an active way following the norms that join us at Sapienza, OSA and SPIE.
